For Further Research

For further research on the topic of global warming, I would recommend the following three sources:

1. UN News
The United Nations (I.e. UN) is an intergovernmental organization (I.e. IGO) that seeks to harmonize actions of member states and resolve common issues. UN News examines a wide range of issues including climate change, health and the SDGs (I.e. Sustainable Development Goals). This IGO also categorizes issues by geographical location such as Africa, Americas, Asia Pacific, Middle East and Europe making it easier to search for specific events and topics.

2. NASA News
NASA is one of the best climate research institutes in the world. Their mission is "Global Climate Change: Vital Signs of the Planet". Here you can find some of the latest news, technical data and innovative solutions.

3. WWF News
World Wildlife Fund (I.e. WWF) not only focuses on climate change, but the effect it has on the biosphere. This nongovernmental organization (NGO) has six global goals including: freshwater, forests, oceans, wildlife, food and climate and energy.

4. IPCC News
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is an organization under the UN that specializes in evaluating the science of climate change. This site provides many useful reports, activities and news.

Current Events I

In this past week, young 16-year-old activist, Greta Thunberg, gave a tear jerking speech at the European Parliament as well as the UK Parliament on climate change. Brave Miss Thunberg, holding back tears, preached to the MOP about the urgency to act upon the issue of global warming. When speaking to the European Parliament, she referred to the immediate attention the Notre Dame received just the day before and how this attention and energy must be transmitted to a more global issue - the global crisis known as global warming. She speaks to the UK Parliament about the never-ending promises of reducing CO2 emissions, in the country known for the start of the industrialization period, but the failure to commit to these promises. As she finished both of her speeches, she received positive feedback from the MOP, but she was not looking for gratitude on her moving speech or sympathy on what people have down to the Earth, but rather action. Whether or not her speech will be the catalyst for...

What The Experts Say II

This article by UN News provides a broader look at the environmental issue. Amina Mohammed, United Nations deputy security-general and expert, instructs the "UN, governments, private sector and civil society to work together in a more coordinated and integrated way" (Dpicampaigns, 2019) in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (I.e. SDGs) agenda by 2030, which is slowly approaching. The SDGs are an agenda of 17 global goals with specific targets in each category, created by the UN. Some of the categories that directly correlate to the environment include: clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, climate action, life below water and life on land. At the ECOSOC (I.e. Economic and Social Council) Partnership Forum, Mohammed reminds the delegation of the importance of working together to solve these global issues. She stresses that "all stakeholders, big or small should ...
